Bunnies are cuddly

The large and the small

But I like chocolate ones

The best of them all.

“”What Color is Your Egg?”  Written by Ronald L. Riedell

“What Color is Your Egg”

Passover was the holiday that marked the three and a half year ministry of Jesus in the Gospels! Passover is one of the holidays that Jesus followed, along with Seder, otherwise known as the Last Supper, by Christians.

Passover is one of the most sacred days on the western calendar, and possibly the world’s calendar. Passover is one of the few holidays sanctioned by God himself.

This day shall be for you a memorial day and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations you shall observe it as an ordinance forever.

Exodus 12: 1-14

What I sometimes fail to realize is that the same G-d who killed all the Egyptian first born children in the Passover story, is the same G-d who shut the door on Noah’s Ark, then destroyed the earth with a flood, and it is the same G-d who will come back again.  Passover is not the beginning, it’s not the end, Passover is forever. Every generation is commanded by G-d to tell the Passover story to their children.

However. our children know more about the Easter bunny than they do about the life, death and resurrection of Christ, who was G-d himself and walked among us.

Now I color eggs and tell my kids the Easter bunny is going to hide them. I tell them to look for the plastic ones because there is money in them. The truth is there are eggs, and the plastic ones do have money in them, so it is not really a lie.

What seems innocent over time, becomes tradition, then myths that sometimes confuse me and my children.

Here is one that might be called a myth by some and then became a tradition: Mary Magdalene was the first one to discover the resurrected Christ, and she became an equal to the apostles.

Mary Magdalene has been turned into a myth and fable by stories that are unbelievable and possibly untrue. For example,  the day after Pentecost Mary  traveled to Rome and appeared before the Emperor. She greeted him with the words,” Christ is Risen”, referring to the resurrection of Christ from the dead. After that, she presented him with a red egg as a symbol of new life.

Why eggs? The hard boiled egg, at the Jewish Passover Seder table, is dipped in salt water and symbolizes: peace offerings sacrificed in the Temple at Jerusalem to be eaten on Passover.  (A live sacrifice)

In the Orthodox Christian and Catholic Churches, eggs are dyed red to represent the blood Christ shed on the Cross; and the hard shell of the egg symbolizes the sealed Tomb of Christ—the cracking of which symbolizes his resurrection from the dead.

The origin of Easter eggs can be explained in the symbolic terms described above. A sacred tradition among followers of Eastern Christianity says that Mary Magdalene was bringing cooked eggs to share with the other women at the tomb of Jesus, and the eggs in her basket miraculously turned brilliant red when she saw the risen Christ. The egg also represents the boulder of the tomb of Jesus.

Who and what do you believe? What color is your egg? All I know is that the G-d I believe in is not the author of confusion.

What do myths and stories have to do with the Lamb of G-d taking away the sins of the world by the blood of Jesus?

I believe I will be passed over when the death angel comes! G-d himself will have mercy on me as the door to the kingdom of heaven is closed and I am transformed to a place I cannot imagine…

Quote of the week:

Time doesn’t matter when I am with someone I love. Time seems to speed up and go by so fast that it can’t be slowed down for any reason.

When I am standing in line waiting to get somewhere, if Iam running late, time is all important to me, and time seems to crawl by.

Time, like love, is an abstraction of my reality.  Time does not exist other than in my perception of my own reality.  Love does not exist other than in the perception of my own reality.

In the here and now, both time and love are conditional to my perspective of them.

When I Love unconditionally, that love supersedes time.  The past or the future fade away. All that really matters is that I am here and now, and happy to be here..
